Naach

Naach

Director: Kiran Reddy and Ram Gopal Varma
Starring: Abhishek Bacchhan and Antra Mali
Music: Amar Mohile and Shailendra Swapnil

After a hiatus, Ram Gopal Verma directed 'Naach'. And having a release on Diwali, means competition with other films. On a long weekend, usually people like to watch films and this time there's a plethora of films to choose from.

'Naach' should be your choice if you like Antara Mali or Abhishek Bachchan. The film is essentially a love story with a backdrop of the film industry.

Abhishek is a struggling actor who gets stardom and Antara Mali is looking for a break in Bollywood as a choreographer but wants to do it on her terms.

The story line is quite run of the mill and in true Ram Gopal Verma style very realistic with real locations of Barista or a bus.

The cinematographer has an amazing aesthetic sense and therefore each frame is worth watching. With some of the songs shot in Oman, the blue sea is really breath taking.

And the credit of making Antara Mali look good goes to the cinematographer. But the content or the story doesn't hold you for long.

It has its mushy moments, but its pace tends to slow down off and on.

Another reason for the film not being that gripping is its music. When the director claims that the film is a musical and with a title like.

'Naach', one would assume that there would be lots of songs and dancing. But to your dismay, the music is not very soothing to the ears and there is dancing restricted to Antara Mali,

Which is very contemporary dancing, with choreographers like Terrence Lewis and some who have tried their hand at choreography for the first time. Some of the songs though have been shot with some taste in them.

Ram Gopal Verma has tried to treat the film differently. He has certainly given a lot of novices a chance at choreography, music and costumes. But trying to be different each time, he has not been able to keep the pace of the film.

All the characters though are well sketched out, but there's a lot of repetition when it comes to dancing in Antara's house or the number of rain dancing sequences with repetitive dance movements. Sticking to his genre, Ram Gopal Verma has his stamp on 'Naach'.

The two- hour-twenty- minute film also has Ritesh Deshmukh, who gives Antara Mali a break in a music video, and then makes his first film. Acting wise Ritesh Deshmukh with his colorful costumes has done natural acting but Abhishek Bachchan has truly evolved, and has got his acting and dancing right this time.

However, Antara Mali has got a lot of attitude in her character. And she has acted according to her character, that of being stubborn and not smiling much. Her costumes are bare minimum and just enough to cover her private areas. And her dancing doesn't really reach out to the audiences.

People, who are going to see the film for its Naach, then let me warn them--'Naach' is not for you.
